The adventures of a military
family and their quest to
experience the culture,food
history and wonder of all
seven continents
Why Short Roots?Over the past 17 years we have moved 12 times and our son has attended 7 elementary schools within 7 years. We live with Short Roots, comfortable where we are planted but ready to be carried off to explore and experience new places, cultures and wonders.
For us travel is not only a passion but a huge part of our lives. As a military family we have been fortunate to be stationed at some amazing places around the world which has required quite a lot of moving. For some this would be a negative but for our family the constant moving and starting over in a new place has made the travel bug bite that much harder. We see every move as a chance to see something new. Have new adventures. Our oldest son knows nothing different than moving from place to place, meeting new people and always having new experiences. Maybe that is why he is so well suited for traveling. The Army life has prepared him and instilled in him a love for new places and things, always wanting to do more. He cannot wait for our next adventure and has some big plans of his own. This is by an anonymous author but sums up perfectly the life of a military child. A life that was chosen for our sons that they take in great stride. "They say military children are like dandelions. They can put down roots almost anywhere and they are almost impossible to destroy. They adapt easily and can survive nearly anywhere. Military children bloom everywhere the wind carries them and they stand ready to fly into breezes to take them to new adventures, new lands and new friends." We hope throughout our life even after the military we continue to have "Short Roots." |
Hi I'm Erin. Wife, mom and obsessive travel planner. I am happiest on the trail with Baby B on my back, researching for our next great adventure, eating my way through a city, finding off the beaten path experiences and unplugging from the day to day to really explore the world. Countries Visited

The lesson I was reminded of during this trip was that sometimes the best experiences are those that you least expect. That is definitely true of the Pin Point Heritage Museum. With so much to see during our time in the city it was added to my maybe list but my mom thought we should definitely try it out. Even as I am writing this I asked Keegan what his favorite thing from all of Savannah was and he said “that museum, Pin Point”. So yes, don’t be intimidated by the word museum. It even has the 8 years olds seal of approval.

Imagine this…you have just spent a week in the steamy, lush Amazon Jungle and are now being transported by jeep, with little to no shocks, over mountain roads, to 3600m in the Highlands of Ecuador. If anyone has ever flown from Florida to Colorado you will have a sense of what I am talking about. Except at this elevation we were twice as high as being in Denver Colorado.
