We are the DeSantis Family

Erin– mom, veteran, military spouse, master travel planner extraordinaire, the idealistic one( who says we can't see everything in a city in two days)

Mark– dad, Army Engineer, goal setter, big picture thinker, the practical one

Keegan -sidekick, militarybrat, wonderer, future scientist/wildlife biologist/stuntman

Beckett - newbie traveler, foodie, excellent hitchhiker

Scout– Chocolate lab and our loyal and very hungry companion
We are a typical American military family. A mom, a dad, two boys and a chocolate lab. We are not living our day-to-day lives on the road, living out of suitcases and backpacks (unless the Army tells us to). Our daily routine does not include airports, exploring far away cities, treks through deep jungles or trying exotic cuisines (unless you count my experiments with Quinoa). Nothing that exciting. Day to day we have math homework, playdates at the park, baseball games and family dinners. But, when we are able to get life out of the way, our family’s passion is exploring our world. Our dinner conversations revolve around planning our next big adventure (Iceland, anyone??), our framed map of the world has pins in 5 continents, and our passports are always ready.

 But we are not wealthy.

Our travels are limited to school and work vacations.

And, we are traveling with a very active, very spirited 12 year old boy (who has been bitten by the travel bug possibly a little harder than his parents) and a toddler who has just started the ride.

We travel for a love of exploring and to teach Keegan and Beckett (and to remind us) that there is SO much more out there in the world than what we see everyday and how we live. There are fascinating cultures to be discovered, new and surprising foods to be tried, awe-inspiring sights, and adventures to be had. Even with it’s challenges and occasional bumps in the road there is nothing like heading out for a new destination.

Whether we are on a trip to the Amazon rain Forest in South America, on a train headed to the Windy City or exploring a state park down the road, our goal is the same. Family travel should be for the WHOLE family and it should be an experience.

  • Go off the beaten path
  • Interact with locals
  • Try something new
  • Don’t be afraid to get lost
  • Do something scary
  • Always make it an adventure

I started this blog to record our globe trotting travels and to inspire families to get on the road and to start having adventures of their own. To show that family travel is not limited to children’s theme parks.   Follow us as we navigate the sometimes challenging but always adventurous life we lead as we discover the culture, food, history and wonder of all 7 continents. The world is waiting…
